Durayd ibn al-Sima

Durayd ibn al-Simmah was an aged, blind veteran of countless battles and one of the most senior noblemen on the side of Ta'if and Hawazin at Hunayn in 8 AH, brought along for his blessing and counsel. He warned the young commander Malik ibn Awf that bringing the tribes' women, children and herds to the battlefield would not win the war and urged him to send them home. Malik mocked him and threatened to fall on his own sword unless obeyed, and the army followed Malik, losing its families and wealth in the defeat.
