This unnamed Companion asked the Prophet ﷺ for the fine new garment he had just been given and was wearing, and the Prophet ﷺ gave it at once and went home in his old, tattered one. When others blamed him for asking, knowing the Prophet ﷺ never refused a request, he explained that he wanted it not to wear but as his burial shroud, so the Prophet ﷺ's generosity would be a witness for him before Allah.
