This unnamed Companion was with the Prophet ﷺ on the Expedition of Tabuk in 9 AH. The Prophet ﷺ always prayed with a sutrah before him, a marker to keep people from passing in front, sometimes planting a spear in the ground and sometimes setting down the saddle of his camel. This Companion asked, "Ya Rasulullah, how much should the sutrah be?" The Prophet ﷺ answered that it should be as large as the saddle of a camel, something visible that would stop people from passing in front of the one praying.
