Attab ibn Asid RA was a young man of the Banu Umayyah who accepted Islam at the Conquest of Makkah in 8 AH, after the Prophet ﷺ repeated to him the proud words he had privately spoken as Bilal RA gave the adhan from the Ka'bah. Though a late convert, he was appointed governor of Makkah, since he had never emigrated from it, and in Dhu al-Hijjah of 8 AH he led the first Hajj performed openly by Muslims.
