al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan

Al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan was an Umayyad caliph who, around 96 AH, demolished the original Masjid al-Nabawi and rebuilt it as a large, richly decorated structure, more than doubling it in every direction. He brought the house of Aisha RA, where the Prophet ﷺ is buried, inside the masjid and destroyed the other houses of the Prophet ﷺ's family, over the objections of tabi'un such as Sa'id ibn Jubayr.
