Al-Sa'ib RA was a child in Madinah when the Prophet ﷺ returned from the Expedition of Tabuk in 9 AH, after an absence of fifty or sixty days or more. He narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari, "I was one of the children who ran outside to Thaniyat al-Wada' to welcome the Prophet ﷺ when he returned from the Ghazwa of Tabuk." Thaniyat al-Wada', the Hill of Farewell, lay to the north of Madinah, where families walked with departing travelers to embrace them and watch them go. On that day the women and children of Madinah gathered there to welcome the army home.
