Al-Hulays ibn Alqama al-Kinani was a wise leader of Kinana, the largest of the tribes around Makkah, known as al-Ahabish. At Hudaybiyyah in 6 AH he went as an envoy to the Muslims, and the Prophet ﷺ, knowing his people revered sacrificial animals, had them brought out. Seeing the valley full of camels marked for sacrifice and pilgrims calling the talbiyah, al-Hulays turned back without entering the camp and told the Quraysh they had no right to bar them. When the Quraysh insulted him as an ignorant Bedouin, he swore the Ahabish would not support them.
