الحسن البصري
Al-Hasan al-Basri (d. 110 AH) was one of the great scholars of the tabi'un. Narrating the hadith of the tree stump that wept for the Prophet ﷺ, he would weep and tell his students that if a tree cried out of longing for the Prophet ﷺ, believers should cry even more. He called a verse on repentance in Surah al-Tawbah the most hopeful verse in the Qur'an.
