Al-Hakam ibn Kaisan RA was one of two men of a Quraysh caravan captured at Nakhla in Rajab of 2 AH by the party of Abdullah ibn Jahsh RA. The Prophet ﷺ held the prisoners until Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas RA and Utbah ibn Ghazwan RA returned safely, then accepted their ransom. Al-Hakam accepted Islam only after his ransom was paid, so the money would stay with the Muslims, the first of many prisoners to do so, and he later died a martyr.
