Al-Aqra' ibn Habis was a chieftain of the tribe of Tamim in Najd. When the Prophet ﷺ distributed the enormous spoils of Hunayn at al-Ji'ranah in 8 AH, he gave lavish gifts to leading men whose hearts were being drawn to Islam. Al-Aqra' received a hundred camels, as did Safwan ibn Umayyah and Uyaynah ibn Hisn, while many nobles of the Quraysh also went home with fortunes. Seeing the Prophet ﷺ give away such wealth and keep nothing for himself convinced al-Aqra' of his sincerity. He said, "I have just come from a man who doesn't care about poverty! Wallahi, this man is a prophet, for no king would do what he has done!"
