Abu Basir RA was a Muslim of Thaqif living in Makkah as an ally of Banu Zuhrah, and the first to flee to Madinah after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah in 6 AH. Honouring the treaty, the Prophet ﷺ returned him to the Quraysh's envoys, but on the road Abu Basir killed one of them and came back; the Prophet ﷺ hinted that he could not stay, saying, "What a great warrior he is, if only he had someone to help him." He set up camp at al-'Is, on the coast by the Quraysh road to Syria (Ibn Ishaq), where Abu Jandal RA and some seventy or eighty others joined him and raided the Quraysh caravans, until the Quraysh begged the Prophet ﷺ to take them in. A later report says he died before reaching Madinah. His story is cited as the example of keeping strictly to a treaty.
