أبو عزَّة الجُمَحِيُّ
Abu Azzah al-Jumahi was a poor poet of the Quraysh, captured at Badr in 2 AH, whom the Prophet ﷺ freed without ransom for the sake of his daughters, on condition that he never fight the Muslims again. Before Uhud, Safwan ibn Umayyah promised to make him rich or care for his daughters, and he broke his word, calling the Banu Kinana to war with his verses and marching with the Quraysh. He was the only man of the Quraysh captured at Uhud and was killed as a prisoner for his treachery, a case cited to show that breaking a pledge is never permitted.

وَإِمَّا تَخَافَنَّ مِن قَوْمٍ خِيَانَةًۭ فَٱنۢبِذْ إِلَيْهِمْ عَلَىٰ سَوَآءٍ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْخَآئِنِينَ
“Indeed, the worst of all beings in the Sight of Allah are those who persist in disbelief, never to have faith — [namely] those with whom you [O Prophet] have entered into treaties, but they violate them every time, not fearing the consequences. If you ever encounter them in battle, make a fearsome example of them, so perhaps those who would follow them may be deterred. And if you [O Prophet] see signs of betrayal by a people, respond by openly terminating your treaty with them. Surely, Allah does not like those who betray.”
Applied by the lecturer to Abu Azzah al-Jumahi's broken pledge not to fight the Muslims again.
