Abu al-Bukhturi ibn Hisham was a nobleman of the Quraysh who never accepted Islam but stood up for justice toward the Muslims, joining Mut'im ibn Adi and others in publicly breaking the boycott of the Banu Hashim. At Badr in 2 AH the Prophet ﷺ ordered that he be spared in return. When an Ansari offered him safety, he refused to surrender without his friend, saying the women of the Quraysh would not say he saved himself at his friend's expense, and he was killed in the fighting.
